The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia or Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia
( JAKIM ) is the agency responsible for Islamic affairs including halal certification in Malaysia.
JAKIM is an accreditation and authorised body that examines, certifies and regulates all food and consumer products applicable to Muslims in an efficient and effective manner so as to guarantee purity and halal certification in accordance with Islamic principles.
JAKIM implements Malaysia’s Halal Certification Scheme and hence controls the use of Malaysia’s national halal logo. (The national halal logo came into effect in March 2006)
This logo carries the word halal in Arabic and the “Malaysia” is written in Roman. The main objective of this logo standardisation is to abolish the use of fake certificates and any other halal logos which are not certified by authorised bodies.
